On August 9, 2008, Harlem River Community Rowing hosted a free introduction to the sport of rowing at the new Sherman Creek street-end parks on 202nd St. and the Harlem River. Participants had the chance to test their strength on ergometers (rowing machines), take an up-close look at a rowing shell, learn about its parts and the physics of rowing, take a stroke in a single wherry, and decorate a mini-oar with an original design.
