HRCR Masters Rowing
Want to know what it's like to row in the Big Apple?
Harlem River Community Rowing is accepting members for its upcoming season. Adults with rowing experience, from novice to elite, are welcome to join. Experienced rowers under 18 years of age may be permitted to join with permission of their parents or guardians and at the discretion of the HRCR officers. (If you don't yet know how to row, don't sweat it—check out our learn-to-row schedule and sign up.)
WHEN DO WE ROW?
Registered rowers are welcome to row at any of these sessions; please note, however, that in order to accommodate a range of levels, certain days emphasize different skills as defined below. Days and times were current for past season, and may change for the upcoming season.

Tuesday evenings 6:30 p.m.–8 p.m (novice)
-
Wednesday evenings 6:30 p.m.–8 p.m. (open rowing)
-
Saturday 8 a.m.–10 a.m. (open rowing)
-
Sunday mornings 8 a.m.–10 a.m. (masters coached)
Open Rowing—Available to any rowers with at least a year’s experience or with adequate rowing skills to allow them to participate in an uncoached practice. Participants should be comfortable organizing workouts with one another and be flexible in determining boatings. (2 practices a week)
Novice Coached Rowing—Open to all rowers, but geared toward novice rowers (those with less than a year’s experience) or rowers who want instruction in fundamentals like sculling, sweep rowing, bowing, coxing, stroke, and rowing smaller or unfamiliar shell sizes. (1 practice a week)
Masters Coached Rowing—Open to all experienced rowers with at least a year of rowing under their belt or who demonstrate adequate competency in rowing fundamentals. Participants will be supervised and offered feedback in these coached practices. (1 practice a week)
Competitive Rowing—Open to all experienced rowers who wish to train for and compete at regattas. Participants will be coached and follow a training schedule in order to prepare for races. (2–4 practices a week)
The rowing season is divided into spring (March–May), summer (June–August), fall (September–October), and winter (January–February) seasons. Costs are TBA for the upcoming year, but range from $60 to $175 per season. To keep our costs low and fulfill our grassroots goals, we require at least a day’s worth of volunteer work per month.
HRCR is committed to making rowing affordable and accessible to all; our mission is to ensure that there are never financial barriers to participation. Talk to us if costs are an issue so that we can make sure you get on the water. Reduced fees are available to students, residents of RiverPark Towers, and those with demonstrated need.
